Metamorphoses

Los Angeles solo performer Todd Conner proves that you don't need lots of fancy, expensive effects to create an atmosphere.  Metamorphoses, adapted from Roman poet Ovid's famed pastiche of pagan mythology, integrates strings and chimes for music, ritualistic light from lamps and candles, and a passionate vocal presentation.  Conner's vocals portray a breadth of personality types: a sensually feminine Venus contrasts with an obnoxiously jocular Phoebus.  Even the parting of the clouds and the shooting of Cupid's arrows are given voice.  And a candlelight trip into Hades evokes a hauntingly ethereal mood.
